Runoff
What is Runoff Water?
This is rainwater that flows superficially into water bodies, through the ground or through artificial channels such as culverts, ditches, gutters, etc.
Runoff Water Pollution Situations
Municipal governments may declare any property within their territory that meets the above definition as a public nuisance.
Where does this information come from?
- Sediment discharge (soil erosion).
- Garbage accumulation.
- Discharge of contaminated water (septic tank overflows, oils, paints, etc.).
- Alterations to the terrain (constructions) that negatively impact the drainage pattern of rainwater (change of course, obstruction, etc.).
On January 17, 2017, the EPA granted MAG the NPDES-PR040016 permit to conduct the Runoff Water Management Plan and ensure compliance.
This Plan seeks to prevent contamination of stormwater runoff from flowing across the surface into water bodies. EPA requires compliance with the following:
- Promotion and Education of citizenship.
- Intervention in the development of municipal projects.
- Intervention in the development of private projects.
- Attention to Complaints and Inspection.
- Implementation: fines, collection, among others.
If you believe there is a contamination situation, please call: (787) 720-4040 Ext. 6601 or 6496. You can also file a complaint at the following address: planningservices@guaynabocity.gov.pr
